Sympathy

Hi Readers,

I apologize for not writing on March 16th as i was out. However topics are flowing into my mind these few days. Compassion is commonly mistaken for its meaning with many other words, such as passion, sympathy or empathy. all humans have an act of sympathy, which is when you feel sorry for someone and pity them, however you do not understand what they are actually feeling. That’s right, I will be writing on “sympathy” today.

How many of you knows the true meaning of sympathy? We often use it wrongly due to the fact that we don’t understand the true meaning of it. Sympathy is not just understanding someone’s plight, you may think that you understand their situation, but the truth is, you do not entirely know what they are feeling. For instance, when a stranger who got no relation to you left this world, you sympathize his or her family as they just lost their loved one. Only if you ever experience the lost of someone close to you then will you be able to understand and empathize them.

Sympathy is a word used especially when you are showing someone that you are feeling sorry for his or her plight, and also showing concern to someone who is having difficulties in their life. Humans will feel sorry for each other after something tragic happen to someone, it’s a natural feeling that a person will have. A sense of sympathy will naturally appear when they know that people is or currently in a very bad plight.

Have you ever thought, why is there sympathy? Sympathy is a feeling or an instinct inborn-ed in us. It make us grieve for that person, the moment we hear a very shocking news or something bad, we instantly have a feeling of sympathy or empathy. It depends on what experiences you went through before you can determine whether you sympathize or empathize them. Never mix sympathize and empathize together as they are of different things.

“Above all things let us never forget that mankind constitutes one great brotherhood; all born to encounter suffering and sorrow, and therefore bound to sympathize with each other” Quoted by Albert Pike

“all humans have an act of sympathy, which is when you feel sorry for someone and pity them, however you do not understand what they are actually feeling.”

and yeaaa . i like this, they won’t really understand the burden that i feel deep inside. :/

  3. What is Sympathy ? Well symphaty is a feeling or instict inborn-ed in us. It make us grieve for the person, the moment we hear a very shocking news or bad. :) that’s all!

  4. I completely agree with you Shawn. You can never understand one’s situation, especially if they are a stranger to you. Even if they tell you what happened, you can never fully comprehend how they feel due to unforeseen circumstances. You see in their past, there might have been events that have taken place which might affect how they feel now and how they react to their current plight. However, they do not know the impact of those events and they feel as if they had minimal effect on them. No one really understands the magnitude of certain events on them and no one really understands how they play with our feelings. So even though they tell us how they feel, we can never really understand how they feel because of their past. I’ll save my comments on empathy when you write about it.

    Love Ming ^^

  5. In Singapore, not much people will wanna get sympathize as the person will think that you’re rather pitying them which is so wrong as a matter of fact :/

  6. Slyvester: your right, singapore people don’t like to be sympathize because they think you are pitying them. Which is sympathy. No differences though they just make it thinks that they need help.

  10. Can i conclude that sympathy is for outsiders or friends who doesn’t really understand the feeling of losing someone u love, someone u really care about, while we grieve over the lost person?

  11. true almost everyone misuses the words Sympathy…true that it is used to express that you are being sorry

Sympathy is a feeling or an instinct inborn-ed in us. It make us grieve for that person, the moment we hear a very shocking news or something bad, we instantly have a feeling of sympathy or empathy. <<<< I really like this part coz everyone has this feeling of sympathy

  15. Sympathy is a social affinity in which one person stands with another person, closely understanding his or her feelings. Also known as empathic concern, it is the feeling of compassion or concern for another, the wish to see them better off or happier. Although empathy and sympathy are often used interchangeably, a subtle variation in ordinary usage can be detected. To empathize is to respond to another’s perceived emotional state by experiencing feelings of a similar sort..

I sympathized for my friend before for being heartbroken.. He used to love the boy that much.. often times I saw her cry.. and then I realized that showing her my sympathy doesnt help her ease the pain.. I tried to put myself in her situation and realized that sympathy isnt wat she need instead she needs someone to cheer her up wen ever she feels sad.. now, I can see she’s happy again.. she died and now she live.. she was lost and now she was found.. im happy for her.. :)

  16. Eden: Wow! well like i said it’s not empathic unless the person experiences the same thing. Yup feeling of compassion or concern.

Wow! since you are able to put yourseld into the situation, you have learn empathy already, empathy can be procreated or actual experience. Good job.

  17. im sympathetic . most especially to the lest fortunate and the marginalized people in the society . i feel bad whenever they get discriminated just because they’re poor . i know how it exactly feels when ur unwanted by the people around you . geeze ..

as the saying goes “Next to love, sympathy is the divinest passion of the human heart”

  18. Cez: Firstly, don’t say yourself as sympathetic cause no one is. The human views different thing, well discrimination is part of life we got no choice but to accept it right? People can say whatever they want. However the real problem is how we accept it and look forward to future. Nice saying!

  19. Sympathy for me is like a mutual understanding from an arising relationship. Can’t wait to see empathy. :)
    nice topic shawn XD
